Star Of The Week

Dear Families,

I feel it is important for our classroom to have community.  One of the ways that I would like to build community this year is by having your child be Star of The Week, once throughout the year.  This will allow your child the opportunity to share with the class and the class to get to know your child better. 

Listed below you will see the week when your child will be Rock Star of the Week.  In most cases it will be the week of your child’s birthday.  If there are several birthdays in one week or your child’s birthday is in the summer I have scheduled them where I see best fit.

Listed Below is the routine for the Star of the Week.  I will also send this letter home when your child is Rock Star of the Week!!

The Week Before:

MondSharing Sack: During the week before a student is Rock Star of the Week, a tote bag will be sent home with your child.  Students have a week to collect 3 special items with which to fill the bag at home and bring it back to share with classmates on Monday. 

Questionnaire AND Pictures: During the week before a student is Star of the Week, they will be given a poster board to use creatively to display pictures and information about them.  I encourage you to use the attached questionnaire to determine the type of information you will display on the poster board.  Students can use computer print outs, stickers, etc. to help them create their poster!

The Week of:

          Monday: Student will share their 3 special items in the bag and talk about each of them.

          Tuesday: Students will share their poster with the class.  (Poster will actually be put up on Monday for all students to see!)

Thursday: Student will read aloud a favorite book from the classroom library or a piece of their writing. 

Any day the week your child is Star of The Week: Student may bring in a special treat.  If child decides not to bring a treat they may pick a fun game to bring in/or use from the classroom to have the class play!  Another choice could be to plan a small project for the class to do!  It will be helpful for each student to let me know what they decide prior to the day in which they choose.
